Classes Offered

We are a state mandated and approved school providing classroom education for teenagers as early as 15 years old. Whether you take our classroom or online course, Teen Drivers Education requires 32 hours of lessons and 14 hours of “Behind the Wheel” in-car instruction.

1st Gear Behind the Wheel:  Each student will have 7 lessons.  Each lesson will consist of driving one hour and providing commentary/observation for another hour.  Therefore, each student will have 7 two-hour appointments. All lessons will be in one of our 4 cars with one of our four 1st Gear Instructors.  Each member of our staff has years of experience teaching beyond the basics of driving and take pride in our work. Afterall, we drive the same streets as our students!  Remember: It’s impossible to teach anyone to drive in 7 hours...it takes practice. Each lesson will increase in challenges as we begin with quiet neighborhoods and eventually travel onto the highway and downtown! After each lesson we advise the student what needs attention and are happy to share with you their progress.  Here at 1st Gear we willingly work with our parents on what is needed for the next lesson.

1st Gear’s classroom course comes highly recommended with interactive conversations with our skilled instructors.  Our goal is to engage the student beyond the rules and regulations needed for their license. We teach that driving is a life-long learning process and to be mindful of other drivers.  Eye opening presentations and videos are used to cover everything from sign rules up to accident prevention, insurance and even basic vehicle care.

During the school year we offer our course every four weeks in the evening from 6:00-8:00pm, Monday – Thursday.  In the summer we provide up to three classes per day to meet your schedule. See our Calendar for class dates and times. Permit testing, $10.00 at First Gear, allowed after the third day of class and students can begin their in-car lessons within a week!

$50.00 TUITION with a minimum $250.00 deposit. Balance due by 2nd week of class.
